Little Fenway wedding

without comments

Sportsshooter.com highlighted photographer Corey Perrine’s update (may have changed – see newspaper story for additional link to images) that featured images from Danny Goulet and Laura Holway’s backyard wedding – a little different from most backyard wedding’s since their backyard features a replica of Fenway Park.  The couple host a wiffle ball tournament/fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund every year and added their wedding to the festivities in 2009.   I’ve never really gotten the spend the minimum equivalent of a car on a wedding that seems very prevalent these days, atleast up North (weddings attended growing up were ceremony followed by reception featuring wedding cake, groom’s (aka chocolate) cake, butter mints & mixed nuts and punch to drink) – the relaxed nature of their festivities, ice chests, crackerjack, casual dress, is very appealing and I don’t even like baseball.

(Fourth post w/ no BC mention although BC will be playing at the real Fenway Park on January 8, 2010.)

Cool time lapse at the White House

without comments

Check out Reuters photographer Jason Reed’s time lapse project.  I think my favorite bit was the Marine changeover and the way they opened the door for each other – so polite (I assume they don’t do that & turn their backs when guarding doors that might actually be attacked).

Kirill Kabanov contract issues

with one comment

New York Times blog has an entry on Kirill Kabanov’s contract issues in Russia (found via Gregg Drinnan’s mention).  It isn’t quite clear whether he had a signed contract complete with escape clause with Spartak  that was traded to Salavat who wants him to sign a new one or not.  What happened in the pre-KHL days when European NHL players decided they wanted to go home to play – did their clubs have to pay the NHL team compensation?  I don’t remember ever hearing that, but that doesn’t mean much :-).   Seems as though the compensation for training like I believe is paid to major junior teams & others makes sense, but not until age 28.

Matt Taormina (Providence) and Chris Murray (UNH) sign with the Lowell Devils

with one comment

Found some non-BC content today, admittedly the news isn’t new except to me and if I wanted, I could pull in 2008 National Champion Boston College Eagle Kyle Kucharski, but I won’t :-).

The Matt Taormina slideshow includes images from the 2008 Chicago Blackhawks Development Camp in addition to Providence College games.  More images are available for Matt Taormina and Chris Murray.

Anthony Aiello and Brett Motherwell trying out for Pardubice

with 3 comments

The article is here - my best translation from the online translation is that they are trying out right now (only getting costs covered) – arrived August 17 and decision will be made on/before September 6.  I’m not clear if there are 2 spots open on D with HC Moeller Pardubice or if they are also competing with each other for a single spot (I think 2).

More images are available of Anthony Aiello and Brett Motherwell.  Pardubice (CEZ Arena) was the primary location of the 2008 World Juniors Championship so I’ve actually shot in their rink before.  I’ll have to try to find some non-Boston College Eagles content for my next post.

Update:  They were released by Pardubice on September 1 after Motherwell played in 3 games and Aiello in 2.  Sounds as though it was a bit of a longshot; mostly a way for the club to save a few bucks.    Seems like it would have been a cool experience though so hopefully it was worth it for them.
