Miranda Lambert’s Revolution

without comments

UPS got here late so I missed Brian Gionta’s first goal as a Hab because the tv is on mute while I check out Revolution.

I keep changing my mind about what song I like best:

“White Liar” – This isn’t my favorite, but I love the “Here’s a bombshell just for you, turns out that I’ve been lying too” line.  I just wish the song ended on that line instead of repeating the chorus.

“Only Prettier” – “Well I’ve been saved by the grace of Southern charm, I got a mouth like a sailor and yours is more like a Hallmark card…I don’t have to be hateful, I can just say bless your heart…” :  When I first moved to NYC from Memphis, I used to explain to people that 9 times out of 10 if someone called you “Sugar” all sweet-like, they were really calling you a m—–f—–, just G-rated.

“Dead Flowers” – No Little Suzy or any other reminder of the Stones’ song.   Pretty, but melancholy is an understatement.  “…He ain’t feeling anything.  My love, my hurt or the sting of this rain. And I’m living in a hurricane. All he can say is ‘man, ain’t it such a nice day” …”

“Me and Your Cigarettes” – “Airstream Song” – “Makin’ Plans” - nothing wrong with these, just not “favorite” material

“Maintain the Pain” – Also not going to be my favorite.  Doesn’t sound like her – sounds like a kickass song she should sing, but then the wrong, wrong, wrong person got ahold of it and gave it a completely wrong sound/arrangement.

“Time to Get a Gun” – 8 songs before a “gun”!    I just love “..time to get a gun, that’s what I’ve been thinkin’, I could afford one, if I did just a little less drinkin’…”.  How can you resist that chorus?  (And before you leap to conclusions, while I enjoy shooting (at cans & stuff in the country), I am a firm believer in gun control.)

“Somewhere Trouble Don’t Go” – Lambert didn’t write this one – sounds like it might have been written with her in mind, but should have been worked on some more.

“The House that Built Me” – She didn’t write this one either, but it’s mighty pretty and sounds perfect as a “quiet” song for her.  “…Mama cut out pictures of houses for years – from Better Homes and Gardens magazine – Plans were drawn and concrete poured – nail by nail and board by board – Daddy gave life to mama’s dream …”  (lyrics say “for you”, but she sings “years” which fits better)

“Love Song” – Love this.

“Heart Like Mine” – Not going to be my favorite, but definitely a fun one to sing along with  “‘…’cause I heard Jesus, He drank win – and I bet we’d get along just fine …when my name’s called on the roll – he’ll meet me with two long-stemmed glasses – make a toast to me coming home …”

“Sin for a Sin” – Definite contender.  Closest to a Kerosene/Gunpowder & Lead/Crazy Ex-Girlfriend type song, but never fully cranks it up.

“That’s the Way That the World Goes Round” – major hatred of whoever put that noise in there, because it’d be great otherwise.  The fact that I have had a massive headache all day doesn’t exactly endear feedback to me. Gotta love these lines ”..she’s a pretty nice lady, but she’s kinda confused – got muscles in her head ain’t never been used…”

“Virginia Bluebell” – Not favorite, but very sweet song – like it now, will probably grow to like it even more with time.

I definitely recommend you go out and buy this album (fyi – Amazon has the physical cd for 9.99 & you get a $1 credit for mp3 or you can get immediately as an album downloadfor $10.99), but if you don’t have any Miranda Lambert and will only buy one – I’d recommend you get Crazy Ex-Girlfriend over Revolution.  I haven’t listened to it enough to decide between it and Kerosene.   Though let’s face it – you should buy all three of her albums.  She may not have all the hype and sales of the other young blondes, but she’s arguably the most talented (you can argue with me between Miranda and Taylor Swift, but they are both above the other two and far too different to compare) and there can be zero argument that she has the absolute hottest man and he’s funny!  I miss getting those two country television stations since moving to Boston because I loved when he’d guest on one of the shows.  Whether you like the love songs like “Don’t Make Me” or songs about breaking out a jail by way of a horny hound dog “Ol Red” – there’s something for everybody.

Have you registered as an organ donor?

without comments

If not, why not?  What are you going to do with your innards when you are dead :-)?

If you are from the US, please click here to be directed to your state’s registration.  Canadians can find your province/territory’s info here.

I know this has nothing to do with hockey or photography other than that there are hockey players, hockey fans and photographers who need or will need a transplant some day and all hockey players, hockey fans and photographers have organs that could help others once they have finished using them.

And if legislation comes up in your area to change organ donation to Presumed Consent or Mandated Choice, please support it – New York Times article on the differences in types of consent used in the US and other countries.

Roll Tide!!!

without comments

I wouldn’t be a hockey fan (or photographer) if I hadn’t first been a football fan so this isn’t that off-topic.  Hopefully it will be repeated on a near weekly basis as Alabama rolls its way to its 13th national championship.  For now – 2-0.  I do wish if Saban were going to play almost everyone that he had put in Morgan Olgivie, Major Ogilvie’s (think cutoff jersey and Sugar Bowl victory) son, but perhaps Saban somehow knew that ESPN360 had crapped out on me and I was having to listen to the radio broadcast and he is saving Ogilvie’s debut for when I can watch it :-).  (Yes, I am a bit psycho, but not dangerously so.)   And for the record, McElroy wasn’t hurt – just the score allowed Saban to put Darrah and Jackson in AND postgame on the radio Saban seemed to be saying that McElroy is a better QB than that future serial killer John Parker Wilson was.  Woo Hoo!

Alabama does provide free computer wallpaper including this shot of Bryant Denny with 92,138 in attendance at a SPRING game – http://grfx.cstv.com/schools/alab/graphics/wallpaper/dennystadium-wallpaper-1024×768.jpg (they are going to make renovations that will put capacity over 100k).

Personally, as much as I love the Tide, my computer wallpaper will stay this – http://hockeyphotography.com/blog/2009/07/a-filler-post-but-you-have-to-love-the-image/ - until I can replace it with a shot of Matt Price or teammate doing the same thing in Detroit.
