Denny Kearney
The United States’ first gold medal got college hockey a mention on NBC during Hannah Kearney’s (Women’s Moguls) interview when she mentioned hockey was one of the sports she wanted to see while at the Games as her brother plays for Yale. That brother is junior forward Denny Kearney who has 23 points in 25 games so far this season.
Erika Lawler
NBC’s favorite footage to repeat on the women’s hockey side yesterday was Erika Lawler dancing to Beyonce’s Single Ladies. Here’s a shot of her dancing on the concourse at the Whittemore Center prior to Team USA’s game against the Hockey East All-Stars.
First the NHL bullies its way into the Olympics, now screw the players participating?
The NHL has apparently told teams to not honor the contract of any player who gets injured during an Olympic training/try-out camp this summer. Most countries are holding them see http://iihf.com for most of the rosters.
I didn’t like when the NHL basically took over the Olympics and while I think they are just being whiny babies and trying to get back at the KHL with the “we don’t want to play in the 2014 Russia Olympics” (flights are long, not primetime – uhh, whatabout the idiotic preseason and opening season games you keep staging more and more of outside of North America?) and will probably want NHL players back in the second they see more $$$s in it for the League and team owners, the idea of not honoring contracts is insane. Almost makes me wish either a Canadian or a US player who plays for a team in their home country gets injured so the League can deal with the backlash.
