2009-2010 US Women’s National Team announced
Woo hoo – two of the Boston College Eagles taking part in the camp were named to the team – Molly Schaus in goal and Kelli Stack up front. Unfortunately Maggie Taverna, Meghan Fardelmann and Allie Thunstrom were not :-(. Personally I’d dump the 3 skaters I’ve never shot and put those three Eagles in their place so I’d have a complete gallery of the team below, less 1 goalie, instead of missing 4 players.
There will be two more players cut before the 2010 Olympics, but for now the team is made up of:
- 29 – Brianne McLauglin, Robert Morris (not pictured)
- 1 – Molly Schaus, Boston College
- 31 – Jessie Vetter, University of Wisconsin
- –
- 22 – Kacey Bellamy, University of New Hampshire
- 8 – Caitlin Cahow (Harvard)
- 11 – Lisa Chesson (Ohio State – not pictured)
- 6 – Rachael Drazan, University of Minnesota
- 9 – Molly Engstrom (University of Wisconsin)
- 4 – Angela Ruggiero (Harvard)
- 23 – Kerry Weiland (University of Wisconsin)
- –
- 13 – Julie Chu (Harvard)
- 20 – Natalie Darwitz (University of Minnesota)
- 10 – Meghan Duggan, University of Wisconsin
- 15 – Angie Keseley, University of Wisconsin
- 21 - Hilary Knight, University of Wisconsin
- 17 – Jocelyn Lamoureux, University of Minnesota last season, transferring to North Dakota
- 7 – Monique Lamoureux, same school situation as sister above (not pictured)
- 2 – Erika Lawler, University of Wisconsin
- 19 – Gigi Marvin, University of Minnesota
- 12 – Jenny Potter (Duluth)
- 16 – Kelli Stack, Boston College
- 5 – Karen Thatcher (Brown/Providence)
- 3 – Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej (Wisconsin – not pictured)
Congratulations to the 1998 Olympic Gold-Medalists Team USA
You could say this is a bit belated, but I have to confess I didn’t cheer for them in ’98 so this is for the nod from the US Hockey Hall of Fame. I became a fan of Danielle Goyette of Team Canada as she reminded me of one of my favorite players, Claude Lemieux, so I was rooting for Canada back then. While I enjoyed watching the Nagano games, I didn’t keep up with the women’s game outside of the Olympics. Last season I decided to start covering women’s college hockey. Didn’t start well with lopsided (play and score) games which aren’t fun in any sport unless you are a big fan of the winning team, but then I got the opportunity to shoot Team USA vs. Team Canada in the Four Nations Cup Final. WOW – that was a great game.
The strangest thing for me was my reaction to seeing the names on the backs of the sweaters of both teams. Despite not following the women’s game much, I was far more impressed by seeing those names (on both teams) skating around in warmups than I’ve ever been for any of the male players I’ve shot.
Two members of that 1998 team were on the ice for Team USA:
Jenny Potter:
and Angela Ruggiero:
I also had the pleasure of shooting team member Katie King who is now the Head Coach of the Boston College Eagles during several games (not yet uploaded) last season including their Beanpot victory. Go BC!
