Boston College announces 2010-2011 captains
While more celebrating is due the 2010 National Championship, Boston College men’s hockey is also looking to the future by naming the captains for next season as well as making some display changes outside the hockey office that will make space not just for the 2010 Title, but for a Title yet to be won :-). Per BC’s release, the team captains were elected by their teammates.

Hockey East Weekly Awards & Milestones
Player of the Week: Will O’Neill, Maine
Rookie of the Week: Steven Whitney, Boston College (previous galleries 1 2)
Defensive Player of the Week: Rob Madore, Vermont
Joe Whitney reached the 100 points milestone on March 12 with 3 assists – point 100, an assist on brother Stephen’s goal. (Previous galleries 1 2)
First Career Goals:
3/12 Mark Nemec, Maine
3/6 Mike Beck and Brian Dumoulin scored their first collegiate goals 55 seconds apart (goal mentioned in previous blog gallery for Dumoulin had the credit changed).
First Career Game-Winning Goals:
3/13 Matt Lombardi’s goal won not just the game, but the Hockey East quarterfinal series with UMass. (previous blog gallery)
3/13 From the Trenton Devils site: Tim Kunes recorded three points (2g, 1a), including his first professional game-winning goal, to lead the Devils to a 5-4 victory over Kalamazoo on Saturday. It was the Boston College alum’s seventh multi-point game of the season and his first time collecting first star honors. One of only two Devils to play in all 63 games for the Devils this season, Kunes leads defensemen with 33 points (7g, 26a). (previous BC gallery)
100 Points!
Reading this weekend’s Hockey East release, I realized I had completely missed Nick Bonino of Boston University hitting the 100 career points mark back on January 29.
Six players have reached the milestone so far this season:
November 24: James Marcou, UMass
January 1: Ben Smith, Boston College (earlier blog gallery)
January 22: Bobby Butler, UNH (earlier blog gallery)
February 20: Kory Falite, Lowell (earlier blog gallery)
February 21: Brian Gibbons, Boston College (earlier blog galleries – 1 2)
Hoping BC Eagle Joe Whitney (earlier blog gallery) will get the needed five points to hit the century mark over the next two games to have it out of the way before the playoffs (College point totals include regular season combined with post-season points, unlike professional totals which keep the two separate. They do not include points earned during exhibition games.) With at least 2 more Hockey East quarterfinal games guaranteed or nearly guaranteed in addition to this weekend’s pair, sophomore Maine Black Bear Gustav Nyquist (86 currently) and junior Northeastern Husky Wade MacLeod (90) (earlier blog gallery) have a chance to reach the mark this year regardless of the game results.
Siblings: Whitneys
Steven Whitney appeared in the last blog post as Hockey East Rookie of the Week. He followed older brother Joe Whitney to Boston College.
