Jhonas Enroth

without comments

Jhonas Enroth was recalled by the Buffalo Sabres to back up Ryan Miller and if Patrick Lalime stays out with an injured groin, could even get to make his NHL debut. From the Buffalo News: “…Ruff said. “If he’s here for any length of time, he’s going to have to play. We’re going to stick to the program. By the weekend, if Patty isn’t ready to play, there’s a good chance Jhonas would play.”   Personally still pissed off that that sieve stole Brian Gionta’s Hobey Baker so hopefully he’ll play like he did in that Albany F4 Semi-Final and get pulled in favor of Enroth :-).

Showdown in Detroit

without comments

Tim Kennedy (earlier gallery) teams up with Nate Gerbe (earlier gallery) against his former Michigan State teammate Justin Abdelkader.

Kennedy & Abdelkader teamed up in 2007 to beat Gerbe’s Boston College Eagles in a heartbreaker for the national championship.    Just to even things out tonight – former Eagle Patrick Eaves is on the ice for Detroit so each team has an Eagle & Spartan.

Okposo – mild concussion; Stoa & Kennedy score

with 3 comments

Good to read that Kyle Okposo was able to fly home with the New York Islanders last night after a huge hit (hit comes around the 1:00 minute mark) by Dion Phaneuf in Calgary – Calgary Herald on reaction to hit; Newsday re: his condition.

Okposo’s former teammate with both the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Team USA (the two won bronze at the 2007 WJC in Sweden), Ryan Stoa, scored the gamewinner last night in the Colorado Avalanche’s 3-1 defeat of the Dallas Stars.  From the Denver Post:  “I just went in with the pump fake and they both went down, and slid it in there low-glove,” Stoa said. “I’m excited and I had a lot of fun tonight.”

Former Michigan State Spartan Tim Kennedy scored his first preseason goal for his hometown Buffalo Sabres (definitely this season; not sure if he did last year) cutting the Washington Capitals lead to 1 goal in their 4-3 defeat of the Sabres.

Buffalo Sabres training camp

with one comment

John Vogl has a nice piece in today’s Buffalo News regarding the Sabres’ training camp and how participants were drafted onto 3 teams to compete in scrimmages.

At this point, Nathan Gerbe leads the players with 3 goals – after discovering how hard it was to cut down over 1300 pictures of him w/ U20 USA, Boston College, Worlds USA & Sabres 2008 prospects camp to the maximum for the gallery widgest; I wish someone else had scored four :-) – and his Team Fleming will meet up with Team Khymlev at 12:30 pm today for the camp championship.

Unfortunately intense scrimmages aren’t all fun, per Vogl, Matt Generous was injured on Tuesday – no word yet on how serious the cut was.
