San Jose Sharks up 3-0; Worcester tied at 2
Logan Couture tied the game tonight for the Sharks which they won in OT to take a 3-0 lead over Detroit.
NHL.com had a nice article on 2008 National Champion Boston College Eagle Benn Ferriero. His Worcester Sharks are currently tied 2 games a piece with the Manchester Monarchs. Some insane traveling: “…Following his initial assignment to Worcester on Nov. 8, the 23-year-old Ferriero was recalled back to San Jose on five separate occasions and returned to the AHL within four days each time. In one 13-day stretch, he was called up and sent back down three times. …”
Siblings: Joe and Scott Pavelski
With two power play goals, including the gamewinner for the San Jose Sharks over the Detroit Red Wings, plus an assist tonight and BC’s 2010 win over Wisconsin helping ease the pain of the 2006 loss, time for a Joe Pavelski gallery along with a mini-gallery for his brother Scott who completed his freshman season at the University of New Hampshire this year.
Miscellaneous
Congratulations to UMass-Lowell River Hawk Carter Hutton – after getting to serve backup duties for a game with the Philadelphia Flyers while on an ATO, he has signed with the San Jose Sharks. (previous blog gallery)
Great move by the NHL Players Association to rename the Pearson Award after Ted Lindsay. The Ted Lindsay Award is the top award an individual NHL player can receive as it is for the “Most Outstanding Player” as voted on by the players. By the way, Gordie “Mr. Hockey Union Buster” Howe does not have any major awards named after him.
Nice story you’ve probably already seen – Brooks Laich stops to help a mother and daughter stuck on a bridge with a flat tire after Game 7 loss.
Maine Black Bear Will O’Neill started his birthday yesterday helping clean Alfond Arena – Youtube video from Maine. (previous blog gallery)
Atlanta Thrashers article on Zach Bogosian (previous blog gallery)
Nice touch – at the end of this Maine cleaning video, you can see that they have the nameplates from former locker occupants in the back of each locker. (And yes, I’m going through a bunch of saved URLs in no particular order.)
Stephane Da Costa will be playing for France at the Worlds (previous blog galleries 1 2)
Rookies Matt Duchene, Jimmy Howard and Tyler Myers are up for the Calder Trophy.
Under 18s and the Denver Pioneers
Was hoping to get a gallery finished & related sibling post up today, but looks like I won’t finish until tomorrow so copying a little from yesterday, but substituting the University of Denver for Michigan.
Current members of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program’s Under-18 team that have committed to Denver are:
Jason Zucker (Zucker played 16 games with the U18s last season including the Worlds in Grand Forks)
Nick Shore
NTDP alumni on the Denver Pioneers 2009-10 roster include:
Senior Rhett Rakhshani
and freshmen Adam Murray
Drew Shore (older brother of Nick Shore) – Denver Post article on the four hockey-playing Shore brothers
and William Wrenn.
–
Matt Donovan, another Denver Pioneer freshman, took part in USA Hockey’s Under-20 evaluation camp in August – earlier Matt Donovan gallery. Donovan went to Denver from the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the USHL.
Albany River Rats at Worcester Sharks
When creating my schedule for October I couldn’t decide between heading to Vermont for Boston College men’s hockey or heading to Conte for Boston College women’s hockey vs. Maine so I did neither. Instead I decided to be a fan and head to Worcester for an AHL game and just get a few shots for fun with no concern about getting the goals or peak action.
Loads of former college and/or US/Canadian U20 players between the two teams. Full gallery: Albany River Rats at Worcester Sharks
