Tonight’s NHL Debuts
Via a quick review of the team rosters – not game notes:
Washington Capitals vs. Boston Bruins – none
Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Montreal – none
Toronto – Carl Gunnarson, Jay Rosehill, Viktor Stålberg
San Jose Sharks vs. Colorado Avalanche
San Jose – BENN FERRIERO!!!!!, Jason Demers
Colorado Avalanche – Matt Duchene, Ryan O’Reilly
Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames
Vancouver – Sergei Shirokov
Calgary – John Armstrong
May they all have great debuts – limited a bit for the Toronto kids (Go Habs Go!) and the Colorado kids.
Scattered (like my brain)
San Jose Sharks:
Good: Benn Ferriero scored another goal & assist in the Shark’s 3-2 loss (previously scored only regulation goal in a 2-1 SO loss) – Head coach on Ferriero – “…every night, he’s doing something that we like. There’s some players that we kind of penciled into certain positions,” the coach continued. “This guy’s nipping at their butts right now. I think it’s great competition. There’s some that have to pick it up.” Maybe he should bite them on the ass instead and put them on IR and out of his way :-).
Sad, not Bad: Nick Petrecki was among those sent to Worcester today. It’s probably better for him in the long run so can’t say it is bad.
Nashville:
@#$%^: Francis Bouillon added – currently on a tryout (confirmed w/ Preds’ official twitterer), but contract agreed to assuming he makes the team. Nothing against Bouillon – but that puts him in Jonathon Blum’s way.
Chicago:
@#$%&!!!!!!: Despite him helping to break my heart in 2006, can’t help but love that Stinkin’ Badger. Sorry to hear Adam Burish is out for 6 months with torn ACL.
Cincinnati Cyclones (hey, I needed to come up with another positive bit of news):
Good: Chris Mueller – who helped break my heart in 2007 – has signed per MSU_Hockey on Twitter.
Re: Twitter – I don’t remember if I mentioned this before, but I do post on Twitter when I post here, so if you’d like an alert to new content, feel free to “follow me“.
Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks make more cuts
The Boston Bruins made more cuts on Sunday including:
Goaltenders Matt Dalton:
and Adam Courchaine who were both sent to the Providence Bruins (AHL)
and Jason Lawrence was released from his tryout:
The Sharks released six players – all sent to Worcester – including John McCarthy:
Nick Petrecki remains in San Jose.
Other:
Tomas Tatar was signed by the Detroit Red Wings who will now decide whether he plays for the Plymouth Whalers (OHL) or Grand Rapids (AHL) as the NHL contract releases him from his Slovakian Team.
Stepan Novotny did his part
You’d think if you scored four goals & an assist that your team would have a win, but that wasn’t the case for Stepan Novotny in the Kelowna Rockets’ banner raising (WHL champions) season opener vs. the Vancouver Giants as Vancouver won 6-5 in OT on a penalty shot. Gregg Drinnan did the math – Novotny is on pace for 288 goals.

Do you think Sharks coach Todd McLellan watches Project Runway? From the Mercury News: “…Their actions allow them to live for another day and get that much closer to making the team,” he said, “or their inactions allows us to move on and look at somebody else. From this point on … you’re either in or you’re out. …”
