2010-11 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award candidates

Twenty NCAA® men’s ice hockey student-athletes who excel both on and off the ice were selected as candidates today for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in hockey. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Siblings: Brandon and Dion Knelsen
Brandon and Dion Knelsen both graduated from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks this year after spending four years as teammates on the Nanooks. They also have a younger brother Kyle who is currently playing in the AJHL. Following graduation they wound up on opposite sides of the puck when Brandon’s Idaho Steelheads played against Dion’s Alaska Aces.
Dion Knelsen was named to the Lowe’s Senior Class Award All-Senior All-America First Team, won the 2010 CCHA Scholar Athlete of the Year and Mike & Mariam Ilitch Humanitarian Award. He has signed with the Sparta Warriors who are located in Sarpsborg, Norway, for next season.
